Finding Alpha where others aren’t looking

While investors crowd into mega-cap names chasing familiar returns, compelling opportunities are quietly emerging elsewhere. From under-researched US micro-cap companies generating consistent earnings surprises, to a concentrated portfolio of 30 to 50 exceptional global businesses selected for their durable economic moats and cultural strength – alpha lives beyond the obvious. This session makes the case for thinking differently about where growth comes from, and why active, high-conviction investing remains one of the most powerful tools available to your clients.

IDAD presents: a history of Smoothed Funds

This is a solution for the challenges facing investors today as much as it has been in previous market cycles and particularly crises.  IDAD will present smoothed funds from their origins as life insurance to what we see today.  Smoothed funds help to mitigate investor behaviour and minimise performance gaps between investor and fund returns. See how both scale and structure allow retail clients unique access to institutional quality investment solutions.  IDAD is bringing a c.£70bn strong smoothed story (available in the UK and select European countries) for the first time to international advisers on a wider range of platforms/life companies.

Insource, outsource… or no source? Rethinking portfolio management for modern advisers

Should advisers outsource to DFMs, build portfolios themselves, or rethink the model entirely? This session explores the real trade-offs between insourcing, outsourcing, and “no source” (DIY), highlighting the hidden costs, risks, and limitations of each. It then introduces a more collaborative approach—where advisers retain control while accessing institutional expertise through managed portfolio solutions. We’ll also challenge the active vs passive debate, showing how blending both can deliver better outcomes. As technology and AI reshape investment management, the winning model will be scalable, repeatable, and deeply personal. This session is about empowering advisers to retain control, enhance client outcomes, and build stronger, more valuable businesses.

How to build portfolio resilience during geopolitical uncertainty

Investors face growing inflation risks at a time when geopolitical tensions continue to create uncertainty. The conflicts in Iran and shifting global alliances are putting pressure on supply chains and energy markets, making the investment landscape more unpredictable.

This presentation looks at how building a resilient portfolio means striking the right balance between growth and protection through diversification and hedging. That can involve allocating to assets that tend to hold up during inflation, such as commodities, real assets, and bonds, while still maintaining exposure to high-quality companies with strong pricing power.

Diversifying across regions and being selective about sectors can also help reduce exposure to localised shocks. Ultimately, combining a thoughtful long-term asset allocation with active risk management can help investors protect their purchasing power while still aiming for solid returns over time.
