From idealism to realism… what does the energy transition really mean?
It’s been a challenging period for sustainable investing. However, the direction of travel remains clear, particularly in the context of global decarbonisation. This is a complex, multi-decade endeavour and cannot be achieved by simply investing in asset-light, low carbon emitters. Identifying those sectors whose impact is truly material and allocating capital to transition leaders is increasingly recognised as an opportunity to capture attractive returns and support the journey to net zero. Affinity will provide an insight into this evolving area and how it can make a valuable contribution to portfolios.

Bulls, bears and ballots: understanding the effect of elections in 2024 and beyond
This presentation will delve into the intricate relationship between elections, economic markets, and global uncertainty in the context of 2024 and beyond. Drawing parallels between the bullish and bearish forces at play in financial markets and the political swings of the ballot box, it will explore how upcoming elections will shape economic landscapes and vice versa. More people will vote in 2024 than in any previous year, with 40 countries and 3.2 billion people taking to the polls. This represents $44.2 trillion of global GDP (42%) – but what does it mean for financial markets? This presentation will provide exclusive insights.
RBC BREWIN DOLPHIN
Circuit Training (Station 2): Understanding client motivation and establishing trust
Capturing client motivation for engaging with a financial adviser marks the beginning of the relationship but maintaining that relationship can test an adviser’s skill and talents – particularly when it comes to building trust. RBC Brewin Dolphin will share its experiences and revisit some industry best practices on establishing “soft facts”, whilst exploring the facts and fiction around the well-known term “trusted adviser”.

Dealing with the effects of risk, with clients
This presentation will explore attitudes to risk within the investment world. It will look at how to create real and valid expectations with clients – and manage them. Dealing with investors’ attitudes to risk – and the ongoing handling of their presumptions – is a key focus and requirement for advisers. This session will aim to assist delegates in dealing with this difficult area.
Registration will open at 09:30am with tea and coffee available. The presentations will run from 10:00am to approximately 1:00pm, followed by a complimentary lunch. Then, from 2:00pm, there will be further sessions, arranged by CIFSA, which will be highly focused on specific issues for Cyprus-based advisers. The presentations will finish at approximately 5:00pm.
