France has been a popular destination with Brits for many years and has been named the world’s top skiing destination on more than one occasion. Its proximity to the UK and the easy transport links make it an ideal second home or retirement destination.

It appeals to different markets and skiers of all abilities, with good quality ski resorts. There is plenty on offer for people seeking luxury properties, but equally, families and students are also catered for. Ski passes are cheaper than other countries and you can get between different resorts easily via the slopes and ski lifts.

For many years, France has been creating resorts and accommodation aimed at the winter sports market. The Three Valleys is one of the most popular areas and incorporates many towns, including Meribel and Courchevel. All offer different grades of slopes to suit each skier’s ability and the shopping is good for non-skiers too.

Mortgages are available up to 80%-85% loan-to-value, although better lending terms are available for loans of 70% or less. Interest rates are currently available from approximately 1.50%-2.00% above 12 month EURIBOR.
